Taking On Water -- Whether the engine compartment floods or the hull has taken on water, it's likely to be an unpleasant ride. Flooding often occurs when the jet ski flips upside down or when a drain plug is knocked out, leaving a compartment open below the waterline. If this water reaches the engine, it can cause a condition known as hydrolock, where water enters the engine cylinder and seizes the motor.
